Looking forward: the home of the future

May 14, 2018

As technology continues to evolve around us at an unprecedented rate, from voice activation to facial recognition, opportunities to adapt technology to optimise living and find new solutions for the home are evolving too. We call it Connected Living, and we’re proud to say we’re a part of this evolution into a world where innovations make taking care of your home, your family, your environment and yourself easier than ever. But what does this future home look like? We’ve compiled a few exciting innovations below, both forthcoming and already adopted, which we predict will be at the heart of this home of the future.

App-controlled laundry

No more confusing settings and features, smart washing machines and dryers are leading the way into stress-free, effortless laundry care. Our Wizard App provides an energy monitoring system which will not only help you keep an eye on energy usage but it will also suggest more energy efficient cycles based on your most frequently used cycles. These machines also offer pre-programmed intuitive functions as well as specifically tailored options for your washing cycles and ever-changing laundry care needs, so now if one of the children is selected to play for the first time in the school football team, you can download a new programme specifically designed for sportswear. Other useful features include the Kilo Mode for example, a setting which weighs your washing and delivers bespoke water intake, while adjusting programme length and spin speeds for optimised performance. The app also offers washing advice from a built-in voice assistant. Not only this, the Wi-Fi connectivity of our selected washing machines and dryers means you can control your washing with the wizard app wherever, whenever.

Connected cooking

Expect app-controlled cooking to play a huge role in the evolution of home technologies. Forget worrying about what temperature to cook the dinner, waiting around for pre-heating, and all the other annoyances that can come with manual cooking. The Vision Oven provides a forward-thinking kitchen experience; the interactive 19-inch touchscreen door lets you browse pre-programmed recipe videos, live stream TV programmes and store your own recipes, along with remote Wi-Fi activation and phone-handy settings designed to give the user unmatched control and convenience in and out of the kitchen.

Smart weighing scales

People are more aware of their health than ever before; dietary supplements, superfoods and health-tracking watches are now common, every-day items. As such, there are a number of developments which aim to take nutrition and personal health to the next level. One notable example being Smart Body Analysers. These futuristic bathroom scales aim to measure vital health elements of the body and provide you with an in-depth breakdown via an app, giving you more control over your body and an awareness of your health like never before.

Automated floorcare

Taking care of different floorings has long been the bane of many a homeowner, and we’re proud to say we’ve been at the forefront of innovations which have helped clean and care for floors for over 100 years. More recently, we’ve developed technology which not only helps you take care of your floors, but vacuums them for you without you having to lift a finger. With an AAI™ (Algorithmic Advanced Intelligence) navigation system, Wi-Fi activation and a whole host of innovative features, the Robo.com3 uses a unique algorithmic calculation to decide the best path for efficient, effective vacuuming, revolutionising the classic cleaning routine. You can read more about the Robo.com3 here.

Smart energy tracking

Smart meters are already being widely adopted as an innovative way to measure energy use in the home. These portable devices aim to help homeowners manage expenditure, reduce wastage, and most importantly, better understand the energy they use. Every home in the U.K will be offered a smart meter by 2020, making this an intrinsic element of our future homes.

We know how hectic family life can be. That’s why our innovative Wi-Fi enabled appliances help you take care of everything with fully connected ease. Saving you time and giving you the freedom to get on with the more important things. We’re excited to be part of this journey into connected living and we hope you are too.

EuroCucina 2018: Hoover presents the revolutionary KeepHeat oven

May 10, 2018

The Hoover stand at EuroCucina 2018 (17-22 April 2018) was designed to highlight the values that have always characterised the brand: to search for and supply new custom solutions, boasting a totally unique style. During our presentation at the Design Exhibition 2018, we demonstrated the superior quality of our products, the stylish and contemporary design, technological innovation and top-level performance of our range of household appliances.

The key concept of the entire experience presented at the Hoover stand was the kitchen. Not simply a functional space, but rather, the beating heart of the home, a privileged area for developing relations and entertaining, an expression of one’s own lifestyle: multifunctional, connected and packed with emotion.

We decided to place our latest revolutionary product at the centre of the EuroCucina 2018 stand:  KeepHeat, the first oven designed not only to cook food but also keep it warm, utilising Hoover’s exclusive patented technology, Exever.

With KeepHeat, Hoover launches a brand new system on the market to keep food warm, from 62° to 70°C. The oven is no longer just a simple household appliance used for cooking, but also a place to store one’s favourite foods and keep them tasty and healthy and ready for serving whenever desired. This is achieved by using Hoover’s exclusive patented Exever technology, developed in collaboration with university researchers and specialised firms, that allows you to cook and keep food warm in one single appliance.

Hoover KeepHeat helps you to revolutionise your cooking regime. It allows you to prepare your favourite meals in your own time, and keep them ready to eat at any time, saving you precious time and effort.

Fabrizio Sansoni also attended the Hoover stand at EuroCucina 2018, a renowned chef, trained in Italy and then in the USA, who has always shown an extreme interest and curiosity for international cuisine; he demonstrated to visitors the quality of the innovation introduced by Hoover with its KeepHeat oven and the connectivity options it is equipped with. It features Wizard APP compatibility, providing access to a vast recipe book and the ability to manage the oven directly from your smartphone, even when you are out and about.

EuroCucina 2018 proved to be the launch pad for a product destined to revolutionise the way we live in the kitchen of the future. A future in which Hoover intends to be a frontrunner, together with our consumers, exploring innovative solutions, custom designed to meet the demands of the modern home.

Born Innovative: The evolution of Hoover

March 14, 2018

From a box, a fan, a silk pillowcase and a broomstick, to some of the most forward-thinking technology on the planet, we’ve been at the forefront of the domestic appliances industry for over 100 years. It’s this rich heritage, as well as a passion for innovation, style and care for the home, that sets us apart. Read on to hear more about our story.

Where it started

In 1908, James Spangler, a night watchman in New Berlin, Ohio, grew tired of inhaling the dust in the shop where he worked, so set about making a simple-but-clever contraption to replace his carpet sweeper. This contraption went on to become one of the most revolutionary inventions of the 20th century. After trialling the invention with his cousin Susan Hoover, who showed it to her husband William Hoover, James sold his patent to William and production began under The Hoover Company the same year. Following a trial offered in the Saturday Evening Post, consumers soon began to see the benefits and convenience of the vacuum cleaner, and so the journey of Hoover began.

Our journey

Just one year later, William Hoover began to invest in a research and development department and a plethora of innovative features and additions followed; an electric upright in 1926 which was the first of its kind, a flexible hose in 1936 which we still see today, and many more ground-breaking innovations. In line with the company’s continual development after a halt for the war effort, the 1950s saw an evolution into vibrant colour patterns, combining style with our already-celebrated technology. With expansion into Europe, Asia and Africa well developed by this stage, Hoover was already a household name, synonymous with vacuum cleaning and the home.

Today’s landscape

Over a century of Hoover has now passed and we continue to focus on ways in which we can develop cutting-edge technology for the home, applying lessons from our past and the present customer landscape to maintain care, style and innovation in all that we do. We have developed record-breaking wi-fi enabled washing machine capacity with the Dynamic Mega, which holds up to 13kg, class 4 A energy efficiency standards in our cylinder vacuums, Dynamic Silence technology for reduced noise levels when vacuuming, and a range of forward-thinking cooking, cooling and vacuum cleaning innovations. Most notably, we have developed products which adapt to the contemporary, connected world, allowing smartphone control of a range of appliances with the Hoover Wizard App.

The future of Hoover

Moving forwards, we will continue to offer products designed to make your life easier, wherever you are in the home. Available from a wide range of stockists nationwide, you can choose Hoover products with complete confidence. Backed by our extensive aftersales service, all our appliances come with a 1-year labour and 10-year parts guarantee. Should you experience any issues, our specialist expert engineers will visit your home at your convenience and carry out the repair using genuine Hoover spare parts.

Who puts innovation at the heart of the home? Hoover that’s who.

5 back-to-school uniform care tips

September 27, 2017

It may feel like the summer has flashed by in a second, but the children are back at school after the holidays, which means packed lunches, school runs and trying to keep their uniforms in tip-top condition. Thankfully we have some handy hacks to help you tackle some of the most common uniform problems.

  1. Wash sweaters inside out

The day-to-day use that school uniform sweaters see means that they’re particularly likely to suffer from wear and tear, especially fabrics becoming pilled and once-bright colours fading. In order to keep this freshness, try washing sweaters inside out to avoid premature pilling and fading. It’ll prolong the fabric’s life and keep you from splashing out on replacements.

  1. Tackle ink stains with milk

Ink stains are a common sight on a school uniform and they can be particularly stubborn to shift, especially on white shirts. Thankfully there’s a small trick you can try to help ease out pen marks. Milk happens to be great for loosening ink stains and for the best results, soak ink-stained white shirts overnight before washing.

  1. Save buttons with nail polish

Loose buttons are another common problem, as the daily wear sees threads often fraying and loosening. To avoid losing buttons dab a small amount of clear nail polish over shirt buttons to save yourself from digging out the sewing kit. Sturdy buttons will ensure your children stay smart.

  1. Treat grass stains with toothpaste

Kids love to play out, which of course leaves parents with the danger of having to deal with the dreaded grass stains, which can be notoriously stubborn. If a white shirt has grass stains, rub the stain with white toothpaste and a soft brush, then leave overnight before washing normally.

  1. Keep the uniform for school

Finally, this is simply an easy uniform-saving routine to get into which will reap the rewards when it comes to prolonging the life of kids’ school wear. Ensuring children change out of their uniforms as soon as they arrive home from school helps them to avoid stains at home. One less thing to worry about!

To save even more time on your laundry, try our Dynamic Wizard washing machine for an effective and app operated washing experience, select pre-saved settings and schedule your laundry in one click. If you have any innovative ways of looking after school uniforms then be sure to share them with us on Twitter.

Charity bike ride success for Hoover

June 12, 2017
Steve Macdonald and Kevin Finn charity bike ride 1

Two of our directors undertook a mammoth 1,200km charity cycle ride across France to raise vital funds for two worthy causes.

The dynamic duo tackled The Veloddyssey Cycle, a 745 mile cycle route along the Atlantic coast, to fundraise for St. John’s Hospice in Wirral and Our Lady’s Children’s Hospital, Crumlin. Both charities are local to our operations in Bromborough and Dublin.

The ride was equivalent to 70,000 of our new tall larder fridge and freezers laid end to end.

Steve Macdonald, marketing director of Hoover’s freestanding division and Kevin Finn, sales director of Hoover freestanding and built-in Ireland, hoped to raise £2,000 (€2,400) to be split between the two charities.

Steve Macdonald comments on his relationship with his chosen charity, St. John’s Hospice: “Last year, I participated in the London to Paris cycle with the Wirral Hospice St John’s team. It was both challenging and enjoyable, but also gave me a greater understanding of exactly what Wirral Hospice provides for patients and families in their time of need.

“After becoming so in tune with the charity and team, I decided I simply couldn’t stand by and not make a contribution again in 2017. I cycled around 100 miles a day over eight days to raise money for the Wirral Hospice, so they can continue to care and support to patients with life-limiting illnesses such as cancer, heart, liver and kidney disease, respiratory and neurological conditions.”

Kevin Finn added: “I’m really proud to be making a donation to the team at the Crumlin Children’s Hospital, who work tirelessly to improve the health and wellbeing of children in Ireland.

“My funds will contribute towards a much needed piece of medical machinery that’s used for young patients undergoing spinal and neurosurgery procedures. My work is part of a bigger fundraising effort by my friends in memory of their son, so it’s an issue close to home for me.”

With the full support of the wider Hoover team, Steve and Kevin started their bike ride at Roscoff in the North West of France on 1st June 2017 and finished in Biarritz, in the South West of the country.
